Million Dollar Legs (1932) A W.C. Fields Comedy Classic on Blu-ray

W.C. Fields was a brilliant comedian. His slapstick comedy looks effortless, but believe me, it was the performance of a skillful genius. He moved from Vaudeville to radio to movies and made many fun films in his career. Many believe his best is It's A Gift.

We have been seeing a lot of W. C. Fields films coming to Blu-ray it is time for yet another one to receive the Blu-ray treatment. This time around, Universal Home Entertainment has released 1932's Million Dollar Legs.

Synopsis: W.C. Fields plays the President of Klopstokia, a bankrupt European country that makes a bid for fame and fortune by entering its top athletes in the 1932 Summer Games in Los Angeles.

Paramount Pictures teamed Director Edward Cline (The Bank Dick, 1940) and Screen Writer Joseph L. Mankiewicz (All About Eve, 1950) to bring this Pre-Code comedy to life. Now, while W.C. Fields maybe the most recognizable stars in this film Jack Oakie get top billing, and deservedly so, as his comedy performances are pure gold.

Universal has transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD master audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

There is no information given on whether this film has been restored for this Blu-ray release. I have to admit the picture quality is good. The picture is crisp and clean with no real damage to this print that I remember seeing. The audio is clear with no signs of hiss or pops. However, there were a couple of instances where words were dropped.

One of the best parts of physical media for me is the bonus features. But I am sad to say that this release is bare bones. There is no audio commentary, no featurettes, and no trailer. This fun little comedy deserved some bonus features, in my opinion.

Final Verdict: A to F
Movie: B
Blu-ray Quality: B
Bonus Features: D
Blu-ray Release: C
